Acne and Cleanliness

One mistaken belief about acne is that it is caused by not keeping your face clean. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) says that acne is not caused by dirt or skin oils on the face, and that vigorous facial scrubbing can make acne worse. The AAD advises gently washing your face twice a day with a mild soap and patting dry. Talk to your health care provider about appropriate treatment.
