An Exercise in Clothing Choices

Wearing the right clothes can make a big difference when you exercise, but you don't need anything fancy. Here are some tips from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases on what to wear:

  • Your exercise tops should be lightweight and loose fitting so you can move easily.

  • Your exercise clothing should be made of fabrics that absorb sweat and take it away from your skin.

  • Don't wear exercise clothing made of rubber or plastic. They can cause you to overheat.

  • If you're a woman, wear a good support bra.

  • In cold weather, wear a knit hat to keep you warm.

  • Wear sunscreen when you exercise outdoors, no matter what time of year.
